Children & Adolescent Psychotherapy

Children & Adolescent Psychotherapy Services

As a dedicated mental health professional, I understand that children and adolescents face unique challenges that require specialized, creative, flexible and compassionate care. That's why I take a team-based approach to therapy, involving not just the child or teen, but also parents and guardians. Working together, we can create an environment that fosters growth, healing, and development, ensuring that everyone involved has the tools and support they need. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques that are tailored to each individual's needs, ensuring that the treatment plan resonates with the child or teen's unique learning style and emotional world.

  • Child-Centered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

For younger clients, I incorporate CBT techniques in ways that engage their imagination and creativity. Using play therapy, visual aids, music, and bibliotherapy (storytelling through books), I make the therapeutic process fun and approachable while helping children develop important skills like emotional regulation, problem-solving, and positive thinking.

  • Behavior Management Plans

When behavioral concerns are part of the issue, I work closely with parents to create effective behavior management plans. These plans help children learn prosocial behaviors and provide the structure they need to thrive at home, in school, and in their community.

  • Consultation with Schools & Professionals

I recognize that therapy is just one part of a child's support network. I offer consultation with schools and other professionals, such as pediatricians or educators, to ensure that all aspects of the child’s life are aligned and supportive of their growth and progress.

  • Parent Management Training

A crucial component of therapy for children and adolescents is the active involvement of parents. I offer parent management training to provide parents with the strategies and tools they need to support their child’s progress at home. I believe in the power of strong, positive family dynamics and work to strengthen those bonds.

  • Ongoing Progress Monitoring and Assessments

Therapy is an evolving process. I will regularly monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed. Ongoing assessments help ensure that the therapy remains effective and relevant as the child or adolescent grows and changes.

  • Confidentiality and Family Involvement

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of effective therapy. However, when working with minors, it’s important to keep parents or guardians involved in the process. I will work with you to determine the level of involvement that is most appropriate for your family. As children transition to adulthood at age 18, we will review and redefine confidentiality agreements, allowing for more autonomy while still providing the option to involve family members if desired.

  • Emergency Contacts and Communication

In case of an emergency, I collect contact information for parents and guardians to ensure I can stay in touch when necessary. I prioritize clear, open communication throughout the therapeutic process, keeping families informed every step of the way.
