 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that helps individuals identify and change negative or unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors.  By changing negative thoughts or beliefs, we can improve how we feel and behave.

Children & Adolescent Psychotherapy

Children and adolescents face unique challenges that require specialized, creative, flexible and compassionate care. That's why I take a team-based approach to therapy, involving not just the child or teen, but also parents and guardians.

Virtual and In-Person Therapy

Virtual therapy has become an important option for many individuals. It offers several advantages, including convenience and flexibility. If transportation is an issue, virtual sessions can eliminate this barrier, making therapy more accessible. Virtual sessions can also be a great way to create a safe, comfortable space, where one can feel more at ease in their own environment.

In addition, virtual therapy aligns well with today's common modes of communication like video calls and texting, making it a familiar and comfortable medium. It’s also supportive of busy or demanding schedules, allowing you to fit sessions into your life with less disruption.

While virtual therapy has many benefits, it also presents some challenges. Paying attention to a screen for the duration of a session can be difficult for some children, especially younger ones, which may limit the effectiveness of therapy. Additionally, technology issues such as connectivity problems or software malfunctions may occasionally interrupt sessions.

Moreover, safety and privacy concerns may arise, even with strong safeguards in place. It’s important to recognize that while virtual therapy platforms are designed with security in mind, there is always a level of risk associated with digital communication.

Research on Virtual Therapy

Research shows that telehealth can be as effective as in-person therapy for many individuals. However, the success of virtual therapy can depend on the individual and their specific needs. For some, face-to-face sessions may be more beneficial, while for others, virtual therapy can provide the support they need just as effectively.

Together, we will discuss whether virtual therapy, in-person therapy, or a combination of both is the best fit for you or your child.  I utilize a HIPPA compliant platform through Simple Practice and will help you get set up for our first session.
