Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that helps individuals identify and change negative or unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. The core idea behind CBT is that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected.  By changing negative thoughts or beliefs, we can improve how we feel and behave.

How does CBT work for me?

In CBT, you collaborate with a therapist to set goals, identify negative thoughts, challenge those thoughts, and replace them with healthier ways of thinking. Understanding how your past has shaped your beliefs and experiences is important, as our belief system is often built upon early experiences. However, CBT focuses more on the present moment and practical strategies for improving current thoughts and behaviors.

What you can expect from our first session

Prior to our first session:

You will be sent a few forms to fill out (consent to psychotherapy, telehealth consent form, credit card authorization form, good faith estimate, biopsychosocial form, private practice policies, and notice of privacy practices).  Additional assessments may also be distributed depending on the referral concern.

During our first session:

We’ll take the time to connect and understand each other, exploring how we can best work together to meet your unique needs. This is a collaborative process, and I'll ensure that you feel comfortable and supported every step of the way.  We will discuss treatment options and if I am not the right fit, I will provide resources to help you get connected to another professional.
